What is Nirov?
The Netherlands Institute for planning and housing (Nirov) is an association for professionals in urban and regional development. With over 10.000 members from many different disciplines Nirov has the most diverse network in planning and housing. Nirov is situated in The Hague and consists of approximately 45 employees with different areas of expertise.

What does Nirov do?
Annually Nirov organizes approximately 120 activities, ranging from conferences to debates and study tours and excursions. In addition Nirov is the publisher of three professional magazines: S&RO (Urban Planning and Design), Tijdschrift voor de Volkshuisvesting (Magazine for Housing), and Nova Terra. Furthermore Nirov participates in a diverse range of projects and work connections. Best known examples are the New Map of the Netherlands (a map that gives insight in the planned future of the Netherlands) and the daily email-newsflash of the planning information center IKC RO.

The advantages of becoming a Nirov member
As a Nirov-member you have access to extensive knowledge and competences within the field of planning and housing and there are numerous opportunities to meet up with others (either within or outside your own discipline) who share your interest in this field of expertise.As a member you regularly receive information on the upcoming activities of Nirov such as conferences, study days, study tours, debates, courses, etcetera. Nirov members can participate in these activities at special discounted rates. And last but not least our members can subscribe free of charge to one of our professional magazines.

Nirov Europe Network
The initial idea for the Nirov Europe Network arose from the core group of Europlan (formerly part of Nirov) and crystallised further based on the different activities that Nirov had organized around the Dutch EU-presidency in the second half of 2004. Currently the network has a core group that works as think-tank, counselling body and motor by means of developing activities on the interface of environmental planning and Europe.

The objective of the Network Europe is to bring the Dutch environmental planning into contact with the European scale level. Network Europe works as a platform, where planning-professionals can meet each other, access relevant knowledge and information, and discuss current local developments in a European perspective.
